Best of the Week: 28 February, 2015 best of the week damian lazarus thom yorke lindstrom
Raya Raycheva

I know that you’re all busy binge watching ‘House of Cards’ and trust me, I’m doing the same, but we need to take a break for a round of Best of the Week.

Random fact: Apparently in Glaswegian ‘cunt’ means ‘person’. Just like that. There’s your lesson in foreign languages for the day. And yes, I learned that from Jackmaster’s twitter feed so god knows if it has anything to do with reality.

Now on to the list.

1. SOUNDTRACK: Thom Yorke & Robert Del Naja – ‘The UK Gold’ documentary soundtrack

So Thom Yorke and Robert Del Naja, aka 3D from Massive Attack, scored ‘The UK Gold’ – a 2013 documentary on tax avoiding wankers or, as I like to call them, the people who will very soon get it by mobs of very angry common people like me and Jarvis.

This week, the soundtrack was made available for streaming by UK Uncut

Watch the trailer for ‘The UK Gold’ here and listen to the score below. When I’m done with the Underwoods, I’m gonna see that documentary for sure.

2. Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons – ‘Message From The Other Side’

Words cannot describe how much I love this.

The description of the track on Soundcloud has more in-depth information about the inspiration behind Lazarus’s upcoming release on !K7/Crosstown Rebels, of which ‘Message From The Other Side’ is the title track.

‘This is music for deserts, jungles and sunrises,’ it says. And psychedelic drugs, I dare add.

3. Lindstrøm feat. Grace Hall – ‘Home Tonight’ (Extended Version)

Every day is a good day for Scandinavian nu disco. It must be the climate, I imagine it gets you in the party mood.

Of course, I felt obliged to google ‘Scandinavian disco gif’ and of course it was worth it.

Aaanyway, Lindstrøm’s ‘Home Tonight’ single drops worldwide on April 6th, on Feedelity Recordings.

4. VIDEO: The Prodigy – ‘Wild Frontier’

I quite like this piece of twisted animation but it poses the question whether there’s some sort of a ‘Go Vegetarian’ message behind it. Because no, thank you.

However, I do disagree with the practice of hunting for fun, sport, hobby, whatever you call it. It’s like, be honest, mate, you just wanna murder something and feel all macho about it.

I do admit to having eaten roadkill though. A deer that my crazy aunt (everyone has one) accidentally ran over one autumn 5 or 6 years ago. I only like sharing this fact because it adds more confusing layers to the enigma that is my life, my background, my thoughts, feelings and general creepiness factor.

5. Lapalux – ‘Don’t Mean a Thing’

Yay, more music from Lapalux’s upcoming album ‘Lustmore’ on FlyLo’s Brainfeeder!

You can pre-order the LP on iTunes here and get an instant download of ‘Don’t Mean a Thing’ and ‘Closure’ feat. Szjerdene, the latter of which we included in our Best of the Week: 31 January, 2015.

6. MIX: Rustie – Mini-Mix 2015

This one’s filled to the brink with super mega new tunes and the visuals are top notch.

There are quite a few ‘bitches’, ‘hoes’, ‘n****s’, some ‘blunts, kush, molly’, ‘gettin’ money’ and all kinds of similar and frankly tired as hell stuff but, if you concentrate on ignoring it, the beats are solid.

Most notably though, there’s a track that samples Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Waiting For Tonight’ and early J-Lo was awesome, don’t care.

J-Lo don't care either.

J-Lo don’t care either.

Rustie’s setting off on a EU/UK tour this week – check out the dates and get tickets from

7. MIXTAPE: Josh Pan – ‘if youre reading this youre josh pan’

This is exactly the kind of fuckery the internet was invented for and for that, I salute you.

If you want to know more about this release and about Josh Pan, The Fader has some explanations here.

I myself am not sure I understand it completely but, frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn. #real life

8. FREE DOWNLOAD: Folie Douce – ‘Colder Confessions’ Compilation

Folie Douce is a Belgian label and art collective, whose latest compilation is completely free because Belgians are nice people. I’ve been meeting more of them recently and the observation holds true all the time.

Anyway. ‘Colder Confessions’ features tracks by Ticklish, Douchka, Kane West and more. Personally, I’m not a fan of PC Music stuff but if you are, there’s some for you in the compilation.

9. Premiere: Mr. G – ‘TT Rum Bar’ (Seven Davis Jr. Remix)

‘Do you wanna get funky?

Do you wanna get down?’

If you do, you’re gonna have to click here and go over to XLR8R to hear the track because big music sites get to premiere stuff and small music blogs only get to link to it.

But who knows how the tables might turn in the future?

10. Dorian Concept – ‘Ann River, Mn’ (Bibio Remix)

Feelings: I have them. When I’m not cooking roadkill deer on the fire produced by the bridges I burn, that’s exactly the type of music I want to listen to.

I have nothing wise to say as a conclusion.

wednesday addams fire
